Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey Run & Festival
The Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey Run & Festival is an annual event held on the Third Saturday in June at Preston Field in Wilmington. The event includes road races and a community festival and serves as the major fundraiser for the Wilmington Historical Society’s proposed Ruth & Thomas Keegan Memorial History Center, a building planned to house a reference library, an archives room, and a display and community space. The Society owns the land on NYS Route 86 between the A&W Restaurant and the Alpine Country Inn & Suites.
Race options include:
- 5K race
- 10K race
- Virtual option
Run participants receive a t-shirt, a race completion medal, and promotional items from local businesses. Awards are presented in men’s and women’s categories for first, second and third places in both the 5K and 10K. Sponsorship opportunities for local businesses are available.
The races are followed by a free festival at Preston Festival Field that is open to the public. Festival activities include whiskey tastings and food, an 1814 Commemoration booth with members in period attire, a Battle of Plattsburgh remembrance ceremony for local War of 1812 soldiers, live music, a craft fair with vendors and demonstrators, history displays, and raffles with drawings later in the day.
