Wild Wild Wilderness - Kickapoo State Recreation Area
Wild Wild Wilderness takes place on 09/11/2027 at Kickapoo State Recreation Area, 10906 Kickapoo Park Rd, Oakwood, IL 61858. This is the 46th annual edition, established in 1981.
Distances
- 3.45 Mile, rustic trail around Clear Pond and through spooky hollow.
- 7.45 Mile, about 95% trail with steep climbs, descents, creeks, and bridges.
Registration opens on 11/06/2026 and closes on 08/07/2027. Race day sign-ups are available onsite from 8:00 to 8:45 AM. Packet pickup is at the Kickapoo State Park Maintenance Building on race day from 8:00 to 8:45 AM and includes bib, shirt, and pins; race day registration does not include a race shirt or sweatshirt.
There is no official race time limit. Aid stations are located approximately 2 miles into the course and again shortly after 4 miles; they are supplied with liquid hydration.
Event regulations state no bandits, no radios or headphones, no strollers, and no dogs. Organizers will not mail awards or shirts, and there are no refunds or bib transfers. Winners must be present to claim drawing prizes.
Campgrounds at Kickapoo include 184 sites, about half with electrical hookups, two shower buildings, a sanitary dump station, and a limited number of walk-in primitive sites. Some campsites can be reserved in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
