Kennekuk Road Runners - Wild Wild Wilderness
The Kennekuk Road Runners - Wild Wild Wilderness takes place on September 12, 2026, at Kickapoo State Recreation Area, 10906 Kickapoo Park Rd, Oakwood, IL. This is the 46th annual edition, established in 1981. The event includes the following distances:

Race day registration is available onsite the morning of the event. Packet pickup is offered on race day at the Kickapoo State Park Maintenance Building and includes the bib, shirt, and pins; race day registration does not include a race shirt or sweatshirt.
The 7.45 mile course is primarily trail based, reported as about 95% trail. The route leaves the park and enters wooded terrain with steep climbs and descents, creek and bridge crossings, and potential wildlife sightings. There is no overall race time limit. Aid stations are located roughly 2 miles into the course and just after 4 miles; they provide liquid hydration.
Awards and on-site recognition include immediate finisher awards for the first finishers at the line, age group awards, and Grand Slam prizes presented during the after-party; recipients must be present to claim certain items. The post-race gathering is held at the park and includes food options and beverages.
Camping at Kickapoo is available through the park campgrounds, which feature multiple sites, some electrical hookups, shower facilities, and a sanitary dump station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
