Event overview

The Wild Goose Trail Festival is a multi-day trail running event at Wawayanda State Park in Hewitt, NJ. The festival runs in mid-September 2026 and includes activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Free camping is available to participants, pacers and crew on Friday and Saturday evenings. The event partners with the non-profit Bigger Than The Trail, which uses trail running to support mental health and provides free therapy through fundraising.

The 100 Miler has a 36 hour overall cutoff and one course cutoff at mile 92.5. Several events are run with time cutoffs (for example the 50K and the 36 hour event); specific cutoff lengths vary by distance. Runners on course after sunset in the longer events may use a pacer; athletes over age 60 and athletes with disabilities may use a pacer or guide at any time. All 100 miler and 36 hour participants must complete eight hours of trail work or volunteering between September 22, 2025 and September 18, 2026 or pay a $100 charity alternative.

Course and participant details

The course includes doublewide trails, rolling singletrack, technical sections with rocks and roots, wood plank boardwalks and some road. The 100.25 mile course lists 11,275 ft total gain and 11,239 ft total loss, averaging about 112 ft gain per mile. A one mile kids race is offered for ages 3-12; children receive a medal and sticker and guardians may accompany them at no additional cost. Registration closes on September 17, 2026.
