Run Wigan Festival - 14 March 2027
Run Wigan Festival is a town-centre running event based at Mesnes Park, featuring three organised races and fundraising activity for the Joining Jack charity. The programme includes the following distances:
- Wigan Half Marathon
- Wigan 5K
- Wigan Family Mile
All routes start and finish in Mesnes Park just outside Wigan town centre. The Wigan Half Marathon and Wigan 5K are UK Athletics certified events. Recent editions have attracted large fields and significant fundraising totals, for example just short of 3,000 participants in 2025 and around 2,700 in 2026, with tens of thousands of pounds raised for Joining Jack across recent years.
Event facilities at Mesnes Park include a bandstand with live entertainment, food and drink vendors, an awards presentation at the bandstand area, and a secure bag drop behind the information desk. Race finish entitlements vary by distance: half marathon finishers receive a goody bag, T-shirt and medal; 5K finishers receive a medal and refreshments; registered Family Mile finishers receive a medal and a bottle of water. Age rules apply by race: the half marathon has a minimum age, the 5K accepts younger runners, and the Family Mile permits children accompanied by an adult.
