Event
The Whitney Lab 5K takes place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Saint Augustine, FL. The event offers an in-person 5K and a virtual 5K option. The featured animal for the event is the hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria). All race proceeds go to the Whitney Laboratory gift fund, which supports community lectures, public education, facilities improvements, public events, and student experiences at the lab.
Course and logistics
The in-person course consists of three loops on the Matanzas Hammock Loop and is entirely on trails; the loop start will be signed but there will not be mile markers. The race start area and packet pick up are at River to Sea Preserve, 9805 Ocean Shore Blvd, Saint Augustine. Parking is free at the River to Sea Preserve near the race start, at the preserve parking lot near the beach, or at the DEP Marineland Field Station; public parking is also available at the Whitney Laboratory about 1/2 mile away. The in-person field is limited to 200 participants.
Shirts and medals are provided for both in-person and virtual participants. Registration opens February 1, 2026. Entry fees vary by date: $35 (Feb 1-28), $40 (Mar 1-31), $45 (Apr 1-Apr 17); the virtual option is $45. Preferred shirt sizes require registration by March 18; later registrants receive a large size. Virtual participants will receive shirts and medals by mail, typically 2-3 weeks after April 19. Awards include top overall male and female and top three in each listed age group. A free kids fun run follows the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
