Event
The Matanzas 5000 is a 5K road race (flat 3.1 miles) held in historic downtown St. Augustine, Florida. The 46th annual edition is scheduled for January 24, 2026. The course is USATF-certified (FL12049EBM) and starts and finishes at Francis Field near West Castillo Drive. Race timing is electronic; results include both chip time and gun time and are managed by 1st Place Sports.
Prizes, beneficiaries and logistics
The published prize pool is $4,200 with cash awards for top finishers and category winners (sample payouts: 1st $600, 2nd $400, 3rd $300, 4th $150, 5th $100). Additional cash awards are listed for Masters (40+), Grand Masters (50+), and Senior Grand Masters (60+) and age-group awards are given for male and female divisions across standard youth and adult brackets.
Proceeds support youth running programs in St. Johns County, including middle and high school cross-country and track teams and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. Since 1989, the organizing club reports more than $300,000 donated to local programs.
Packet pickup is available at two locations on Friday, Jan. 23, and at Ketterlinus Elementary School on Friday and the race day morning. Parking options near the finish include a garage (free before 7:00 AM, $15.00 after), metered lots, street parking where permitted, and free parking at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
