About the race
The Matanzas 5000 is the 47th annual running of a chip-timed 5K held on January 16, 2027, starting at Francis Field, 25 W Castillo Dr, St. Augustine, FL 32084. The scenic course winds through the streets of historic St. Augustine and is managed by Ancient City Road Runners, a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
The event lists a prize pool of $4,000 and uses chip timing provided by 1st Place Sports; runners must cross the timing mats to be included in the official results, which show both chip time and gun time.
Proceeds benefit cross-country running programs at St. Johns County high schools and middle schools and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. Since 1989, Ancient City Road Runners has donated more than $350,000 to youth running programs.
Packet pickup is available at two locations: 1st Place Sports in Jacksonville and Ketterlinus Elementary School in St. Augustine (dates include January 15 and January 16). Parking options near the finish area include a garage next to the finish line (free if arriving before 7:00 AM; otherwise a daily fee), street parking where permitted, nearby Orange Street lots on a first-come, first-served basis, the Castillo de San Marcos metered lot, and free parking at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 100 San Marco Avenue. Race organizers do not control city parking rates and receive no portion of those fees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
