Whitewater Triathlon
The Whitewater Triathlon takes place on May 8, 2027 in Charlotte, NC at the Whitewater Center. The event offers a full distance and a sprint distance that combine open water swimming, mountain biking, and trail running on the center's trail system.
Distances:
- Full: 1K swim in the Catawba River, 23K mountain bike, 6.5K trail run
- Sprint: 400m swim in the Catawba River, 12K mountain bike, 3K trail run
Packet pick-up is scheduled the day before the race at the South Conference Center and on race day. Pre-registration is noted as coming soon; listed pre-registration fees are $100 for the full distance and $80 for the sprint, with the last day to pre-register shown as May 6. Race T-shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register on or before April 26.
Key rules and policies include a required helmet for the bike leg, no E-bikes or other powered transportation, and athlete-supplied bike and helmet. Swim caps are mandatory and swim aids are not allowed. Wetsuit use depends on water temperature: permitted below 78 degrees; allowed but ineligible for overall awards between 78.1 and 83.9 degrees; not permitted above 84 degrees. All participants must sign an assumption of risk waiver before participating. Registration is non-refundable. Trails remain open to other users and riders should communicate when passing. The Whitewater Center may alter, reschedule, or cancel the event and does not conduct trail rescues; participants must call 911 if emergency response is needed.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in Junior (under 17), Open (under 39), and Masters (40 and over) categories, and recipients must be present at the awards ceremony to receive awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
