Whitewater Triathlon
The Whitewater Triathlon takes place at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC on May 8, 2027. The event offers a full course and a sprint course that combine open-water swimming, mountain biking, and trail running using the center and adjacent trail system.
Distances
- Full Distance: 1K open water swim, 23K mountain bike, 6.5K trail run
- Sprint Distance: 400m swim, 12K bike, 3K run
Swim details note the swim occurs in the Catawba River. Swim caps are mandatory and swim aids such as buoys, fins, and paddles are not allowed. Wetsuit rules depend on water temperature: wetsuits are permitted below 78 degrees, permitted but excluded from overall results between 78.1 and 83.9 degrees, and not permitted above 84 degrees.
Bike rules require a helmet, prohibit E-bikes, and state participants must provide their own bike and helmet. Trails remain open to other users during the race and participants should communicate when passing. The event proceeds rain or shine, but the Whitewater Center may alter, reschedule, or cancel the event.
Other event notes include non-refundable registration, a requirement to sign an assumption of risk waiver before participating, a parking fee policy at the Whitewater Center, and that the center does not conduct trail rescues; participants must call 911 for emergency response. Volunteers are coordinated through the event staff. Awards are given by age and gender groups and recipients must be present at the ceremony.
