White Peak Half Marathon
The White Peak Half Marathon is a 13.1 mile off-road race that follows the High Peak Trail from Friden to Cromford. The route runs on firm compacted limestone and cinder surfaces laid on former railway tracks, making road running shoes suitable. The course is marked and includes one road crossing shortly after the start.
The route undulates along the tops of the dales for the first eight miles or so, then descends in three stages, with a total descent of about 800 feet to High Peak Junction on the Cromford Canal. From there the course turns onto the canal towpath and finishes at Cromford Wharf. Coaches transport competitors to the start and parking is provided at Cromford Wharf and nearby Cromford Meadows car park. Facilities include a baggage drop at the start for half marathon runners, public and portable toilets, three water stations on the half marathon course, and a two crew medical response with ambulance cover. All finishers receive a medal and a race branded gift, and water and a packet of biscuits are provided at the finish. Entry is limited to 350 places, minimum age is 17, and the entry fee is £32 for affiliated runners and £34 for unaffiliated runners; coach transfer and finish medal are included.
