About the race
The Wheeling Turkey Trot is a multi-day running event held at the Alma Grace McDonough Center on the Wheeling University campus in Wheeling, West Virginia. The event dates are November 26–29, 2026 and the program includes an in-person 5K run/walk, a virtual 5K option called "Pardoned Turkey," and a children's fun run. Registration details differ by race: the listed registration opening date is September 28, 2026; the in-person 5K and virtual 5K have a registration close date of November 1, 2026, and the children's fun run registration remains open through November 26, 2026. Published entry fees are $25.00 for the 5K and virtual 5K, and $15.00 for the children's run.
Participants who register for the 5K by November 16 are guaranteed a long sleeve t-shirt. Virtual participants are offered an event t-shirt that can be picked up at packet pickup, on race day, or at the Parks and Recreation office beginning December 2. Packet pickup is scheduled on the days before the event at the Parks and Recreation office and there is also packet pickup and day-of registration at the McDonough Center. The 5K includes a random-drawing prize opportunity, and post-race snacks and refreshments are provided inside the McDonough Center.
