WGPAL Donut Dash 5K
The WGPAL Donut Dash 5K is a community running event held in downtown Winter Garden with a course that passes through historic neighborhoods and along Lake Apopka. The event includes live music, sponsor tents, and an on-site kids fun run at Newton Park.
Distances offered:
- 3.1 Miles WGPAL Donut Dash 5K Run/Walk
- 3.1 Miles VIRTUAL 5K (REMOTE PARTICIPATION)
The event supports the Winter Garden Police Athletic League. PAL programs mentioned include a free eight-week summer camp for 70 children and a Holiday Gifts for Kids Program that supplies holiday gifts and meal vouchers to approximately 400 local children.
A distinctive feature is the donut-eating rule. There are three designated donut zones located at the 1, 2, and 3 mile marks. Each donut finished inside a donut zone reduces the participant’s final recorded time by 30 seconds. If a participant eats 12 or more donuts, each donut over 12 grants an additional 1 minute deducted per donut. All donuts must be finished inside the donut zones. Virtual participants do not have to eat donuts while completing their 5K.
All registered participants receive a race medal. Additional medals are awarded to first and second place finishers by age category and to the top three overall male and female finishers. Packet pick-up is listed for the day before the event at the Winter Garden Police Department; late registration and packet pick-up are available on race morning at Newton Park unless the event is sold out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
