Wettlauf 5K
The Wettlauf 5K is an athletic event held in Jasper, Indiana, as part of the four-day German Jasper Strassenfest. The event takes place on Main Street between 8th and 9th Streets and features two primary participation options:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk (untimed)
The course consists of rolling, paved city streets. The route is marked and policed, with water stations positioned along the path and mile splits provided for participants. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on the course. While the run is timed using electronic systems, the walk is an untimed event where participants are expected to maintain a pace of approximately 20 minutes per mile to complete the distance within one hour.
Participants receive a unique Strassenfest Wettlauf t-shirt while supplies last. At the conclusion of the event, fruit and water are provided. The race serves various age divisions for both men and women, ranging from ages 10 and under to 99.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners of the 5K Run. Additionally, awards are given to the top three finishers in each age category. The event coincides with a local heritage festival featuring food booths, rides, and exhibits celebrating the community's German roots.
