Western PA CARES for Kids 17th Annual Duathlon, 5K & Community Walk
The event takes place on July 18, 2026 at Cook Forest State Park, Shelter 2, in the Leeper/Cooksburg area of Pennsylvania. It features two timed races and a community walk, and benefits Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center.
Timed events and walk:
- Duathlon: 3.1 mile run, 12 mile bike, 2 mile run.
- 5K: 3.1 mile mixed trail and paved course.
- Community walk: 2 mile walk.
The duathlon can be completed solo or as a team of two or three. The duathlon and 5K are timed; the community walk is not timed. Awards include overall and age-group prizes for both the duathlon and the 5K, plus team and youth categories. Cash prizes are offered for race winners.
Event amenities include a free picnic lunch for racers and spectators and on-site raffle opportunities. Past grand prizes have included grills, televisions, kitchen appliances, and electronics. Participants are encouraged to raise donations for the beneficiary organization. The top three fundraisers receive priority selection of premium fundraising prizes, and fundraisers who raise at least $75 are entered into an exclusive prize drawing. Fundraisers must provide a sponsor list with names, addresses, and tax receipt preferences. Pre-registration by June 20 qualifies participants for a free event t-shirt.
