Western PA CARES for Kids 17th Annual Duathlon, 5K & Community Walk
This event at Cook Forest State Park (Shelter 2) on July 18, 2026 includes two timed races, a community walk, fundraising activities, awards, and raffle prizes. Proceeds benefit Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center. A free picnic lunch is provided to racers and spectators after the events.
The duathlon can be completed solo or as a team of two or three and follows a run-bike-run format. The 5K takes place on a mix of trails and paved roads within the park. The community walk is untimed.
- Duathlon: 3.1 mile run, 12 mile bike, 2 mile run
- 5K: 3.1 miles on mixed trails and paved roads
- Community walk: 2 mile untimed walk
Awards are given for overall and age-group placings in both the duathlon and the 5K, plus team and youth categories. Cash prizes are listed for race winners. Participants are encouraged to raise donations; the top fundraisers receive premium prizes or entry into prize drawings for those raising $75 or more. Raffle tickets are available for purchase. Pre-registration by June 20 includes a complimentary event t-shirt. Early bird registration runs May 6–May 31 with a drawing for $100; regular registration runs June 1–July 17.
