Since 2018 the Cook Forest 25K Trail Challenge has been held in Cook Forest State Park near Cooksburg, Pennsylvania. The event uses Shelter 2 for the start and finish and for packet pickup. The shelter address is 2604 Forest Rd., Vowinckel, PA 16233 and the GPS coordinates are 41.34609 N, 79.21845 W. The course is a loop that links 13 trails over more than 17 miles of varied terrain. The route includes a climb on Seneca Trail to the Cook Forest Fire Tower, sections along the Clarion River, and the shaded paths of Tom’s Run. Much of the route passes through areas of old-growth evergreen forest.
Three aid stations are located on course and are staffed by local high school cross country teams. These stations provide hydration and nutrition for participants.
Organizers are a group of local runners and volunteers connected to the park. Lodging options near the event include cabins, campsites, and local inns. Weather in the forest can vary, so runners are advised to dress in layers and prepare for both sun and shade on the trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
