Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 : event facts

The Westcountry Ultra Hilly is a 50 mile trail ultramarathon held on Saturday 9th May 2026. The route has total elevation gain of 7337 ft. Entry fee is £60. The event starts and finishes at West Somerset College in Minehead. The race has a 16 hour cut-off and six aid stations. This is a cupless race so runners must carry a bottle and a cup if needed. Professional medical cover is provided.

Course, support and rules

The route is partly out-and-back with an additional one-way loop. Terrain includes ancient woodland, coastal paths, marshes, lanes and moorland, passing places such as Bossington, Porlock Weir, Culbone, Horner and Webber’s Post, and the area around Dunkery Beacon. Signage and tape are used where needed; parts of the South West Coast Path and some upland sections rely on existing waymarks and a provided gpx file. Aid stations offer water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts and sweets.

  • CP6 Bossington - about 42 miles

Pacers are not permitted. Support crews and spectators are allowed. There is no mandatory kit, but suggested items include a waterproof jacket, headtorch, high-vis clothing, whistle, compass, phone, at least one 500 ml water bottle and a survival blanket.
