Trail Running in Exmoor
The Doone Run is a trail race with a history spanning over 30 years, organized by the Ilfracombe Running Club. The event is set in the Doone Valley within Exmoor and utilizes land managed by the National Trust and Lee Abbey. Participants follow a traditional route that features significant elevation changes and local wildlife, including goats.
The race follows a specific route through the valley:
- 16 km (10 miles)
The event is limited to a maximum of 250 participants. Runners must be at least 17 years old to enter. A registration discount is available for members of UK Athletics clubs. Proceeds from the race support charitable organizations, including Chemohero.
A strictly enforced time limit is in place for the safety of participants and marshals. Runners must reach the 5 mile mark at the Olde Cottage Inn within 1 hour and 20 minutes; those who do not meet this cutoff will be withdrawn from the race at that point. All finishers receive a commemorative medal, and additional prizes are awarded for specific categories. The course is situated near Lynmouth and includes varied terrain with multiple hill sections.
