West Almond Trails IMPACT Run
The West Almond Trails IMPACT Run is a second annual trail event on 08/29/2026 at the Phillips Creek State Forest parking area on State Route 244 in Belmont, New York. The host is IMPACT: Friends Improving Allegany County Trails, a non profit volunteer led, membership driven group. Proceeds and donations support the group's trail improvement work.
Courses pass through Phillips Creek, Turnpike, and Palmers Pond State Forests and run through rolling hardwood stands and older pine plantations. Trail improvements to Trail 3 were completed in 2025 and the 5K course has returned to its advertised distance. A map of the three state forest trail systems is available.
Distances offered include:
- 5K run and walk Trail 3 loop through Phillips Creek, rolling with possible wet spots
- 10K run and walk uses Trail 3 west, Trail 4, Trail 5 and Trail 2
- 25K run Trails and gravel roads through three state forests with creek crossings and mud
The 5K follows the Trail 3 loop and may include wet spots and rolling terrain with a longest climb of about 25 m near the 4 km mark. The 10K route includes one creek crossing, variable topography, and an overall elevation loss of roughly 60 m over the first 7.5 km that is regained in the final 2.5 km. The 25K follows a mix of well traveled and little traveled trails plus gravel or seasonal roads, includes creek crossings and muddy sections, and does not repeat trails. Local emergency and rescue services, ambulance and communications volunteers support event operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
