West 100
West 100 is a team event of five runners completing 100 mile trail routes in Cornwall. The organisers currently offer three routes: Bude to Gwithian, Coverack to Porthtowan, and Plymouth Sound to Coverack. All five team members start together and use self navigation while crew support moves with the team.
Entry requires qualifying experience: completion of a 100 km event in under 20 hours and prior experience of night running. Runners must be dropped off and collected from the event base at 64 Trelowarren Street, Camborne TR14 8AH. An emergency contact who can collect the runner if needed is required. Participants must be over 18 and confirm they are medically able to undertake the event.
Teams have up to 36 hours to complete the course. The crew meets the team every five to six miles, supplies water, Pepsi, sweets, crisps and simple hot food, and will transport runners around ferry crossings where needed. Runners supply primary nutrition; the organisers provide supplementary food. One box of personal gear or food (50 x 50 x 40 cm) may be brought; a box can be provided if required. The crew bus and participants are tracked using the Life360 app.
There are no fixed cut off times but time limits will apply at checkpoints and the organisers may ask a runner to retire if team safety or cohesion is compromised. Major medical incidents may lead to event cancellation. If the Met Office issues an Amber or Red weather warning the event cannot go ahead and may be rescheduled or held virtually. The entry fee is £110 and is non refundable. A mandatory kit list includes waterproof outerwear, headtorch, bivvy bag, first aid kit, hydration system and emergency money.
