West 100
West 100 is a team-based 100 mile trail event in Cornwall organised from a base in Camborne (64 Trelowarren Street, TR14 8AH). Teams consist of five runners who start together and navigate the route themselves while being supported by an event crew. Three current route options are listed: Bude to Gwithian, Coverack to Porthtowan, and Plymouth Sound to Coverack. The run must be completed within 36 hours.
Entry requires prior experience: completion of a 100 km race in under 20 hours and prior night running experience. Runners are transported from the base to the start, met by crew every 5 to 6 miles, and returned to the base from the finish. If a ferry crossing is on route, the crew will transport runners around to where the coast path continues. Runners may carry one box of personal gear or food (50 x 50 x 40 cm); an event box can be provided if needed.
Organisers provide water, Pepsi, sweets, crisps and simple hot food; runners supply their main nutrition. Any medical incidents are handled by the event team and a major medical incident may lead to event cancellation. Runners must provide an emergency contact able to collect them if required and install the Life360 app for tracking. No driving is advised after a 100 mile event.
Each entry costs £110 and is non refundable unless the place is filled and a refund is issued. Runners who finish receive a Whythra Bys Vyken 100 miler buckle.
Mandatory kit includes a quality waterproof jacket (10000 mm minimum with taped seams), windproof overtrousers, cap or buff, hydration system (minimum 1 litre), reusable cup, emergency nutrition, first aid kit with blister plasters, bivvy bag (not a foil blanket), whistle, fully charged mobile phone, waterproof gloves, long sleeve base layer, £20 emergency money, headtorch 200 lumens minimum with spare batteries, and a spare head or hand torch.
