Event overview

The Wessex Night League event in Kings Worthy is a 60 minute touch-free straight score orienteering event held at the Worthies Sports & Social Club, Loader Close, Kings Worthy, Winchester SO23 7NJ. Entry on the day is allowed subject to the event entry limit. The event uses EMIT touch-free timing and all competitors must report to download at the club after finishing.

Course, map and scoring

The map is 1:5,000 on SRA3 portrait waterproof paper with 5 m contours and was recently updated in 2025. The area is mainly urban with some woods, open areas and a steep railway embankment; competitors are advised to use mapped paths on the embankment. There will be 30 controls numbered 101 to 130. Planned point values are: 101–117 = 10 points; 118–125 = 20 points; 126–128 = 30 points; 129–130 = 40 points. Loose control descriptions will be available at registration and control numbers and points will be printed on the map. All juniors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry, equipment and facilities

Entry fees are Senior £7.00 and Junior £2.00; juniors are defined as under 21 on 31st December. A senior chip hire charge applies for use of the touch-free system; lost eTags will be charged at £45. Competitors must wear hi-viz tops and carry sufficient lights with a backup. Mixed terrain footwear is recommended and should be removed before re-entering the club. Dogs are allowed on the course.
