About the race
Wellwood Walk/Run/Wheel is a fundraising event held at the McMaster University Student Centre in Hamilton that raises awareness and funds for colorectal cancer support through the Wellwood Cancer Resource Centre. The event runs in its 28th year and offers timed 5K and a kids 1K with race shirts, medals for children, and additional race swag included with some registrations.
The event features:
- Kids 1K : t-shirts, medals and superhero capes for children 12 and under
- Youth 5K : clock timed, race shirt available
- Adult 5K : clock timed, race shirt available
The course is presented as accessible for a variety of mobility devices; "wheel" refers to mobility aids such as manual and leisure wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers and strollers. Bicycles, roller blades and pets are not permitted on the course. One water station is available at the halfway point and there are no washrooms on the route; permanent washrooms are available inside the Student Centre and on the lower level of Gilmour Hall. Marshals are positioned along the route and the course closes after 90 minutes.
Race kit pick up and in person registration are available at Wellwood and at the McMaster Student Centre in the days before the event and on race day.
