Wellwood Walk/Run/Wheel: Kicking Cancer's Butt
Wellwood Walk/Run/Wheel takes place on October 18, 2026 at the McMaster University Student Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. The event is in its 28th year and aims to raise awareness of colorectal cancer and funds for Wellwood Cancer Resource Centre, which provides free supportive care for people with a cancer diagnosis and their caregivers.
Event distances and formats:
- Kids 1K "Best Effort" (clock timed) for participants up to age 14
- Youth 5K Walk/Run/Wheel (clock timed)
- Adult 5K Walk/Run/Wheel (clock timed)
Children's registration is free and includes t-shirts, medals and superhero capes for those 12 and under. Youth and adult entries include a race shirt in the fee. Early bird pricing is available until September 18. "Wheel" refers to mobility aids such as racing and leisure wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers and strollers. Bikes, roller blades and pets are not permitted on the course; entrants with strollers should line up near the rear.
Practical details: race kits, bibs and shirts are available for pickup in the days before the event and on race morning at the Student Centre. There is one water station at the halfway point and no washrooms on the route; permanent facilities are available inside the Student Centre and in Gilmour Hall. The course closes after 90 minutes.
