About the race
Wellwood Walk/Run/Wheel is a community fundraising event held at the McMaster University Student Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, on October 18, 2026. The event marks the 28th year of a return-to-wellness campaign that raises awareness of colorectal cancer and funds for the Wellwood Cancer Resource Centre. The organiser reports 95 participants so far and a fundraising total of CA$7,283.53 toward a CA$50,000 goal. The event offers timed distances for different age groups and abilities: - Kids "Best Effort" 1K (clock timed), children 12 and under receive t-shirts, medals and superhero capes - Youth 5K Walk/Run/Wheel (clock timed) - Adult 5K Walk/Run/Wheel (clock timed) Registration fees are listed as free for the Kids 1K, CA$15.00 for the Youth 5K, and CA$20.00 for the Adult 5K; race shirts are included with purchase for the 5K divisions.
The term "Wheel" refers to mobility aids such as wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers and strollers; bikes, roller blades and pets are not permitted on the course. Race swag is included with registration, and kids’ participants receive medals at the finish. The course includes a single water station at the halfway point and closes after 90 minutes.
Race kit pick-up and pledge drop-off are available at Wellwood and at the McMaster Student Centre in the days leading up to the event. Parking is provided by McMaster University; lots closest to the Student Centre fill up quickly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
