The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race 2026
The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race takes place on December 19, 2026 at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario. The event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario and benefits the charity Hamilton Out Of The Cold.
The course is an approximately 3.7 km trail loop with a mixture of tree-covered singletrack and open field. There are a few short rolling hills, and the site is typically exposed to wind. Organizers may alter the exact loop before race day to use trails in the best condition.
Distances and formats:
- Full Solstice 8 hours 58 minutes
- Full Solstice Relay 8 hours 58 minutes
- Half Solstice 4 hours 29 minutes
- Quarter Solstice 2 hours 15 minutes
Relay teams may include up to five runners. Each relay runner must run the full loop and all exchanges must occur in the designated relay transition area. Teams receive shirts and finishing medals; awards are given only to the top team in each relay category. Team captains handle registration. Teams may set up tents and have access to an indoor space depending on weather.
There will be one aid station passed every few kilometres supplying water, an electrolyte drink, gels, sweet and salty snacks, peanut butter and jam sandwiches, and pickles. This is a cup-less event so participants must bring a collapsible cup or bottle.
All participants receive a finisher's medal and a crewneck sweatshirt. Local nutrition gels are provided in race kits and at aid stations. La Sportiva will offer shoe demos and shoe giveaways at events. The race site offers close parking, washrooms, scenic grounds, and a pavilion. Post-race meals are not included in registration. Refunds are issued as a 100 percent race credit if requested more than 30 days before the race; transfers are allowed and there are no waitlists.
