The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race 2026
The event takes place on December 19, 2026 at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario. The race is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario.
The course uses an approximately 3.7 km trail loop combining tree-covered trails and open field sections. There are a few short rolling hills and exposed sections where wind is typical. Organizers will select the final route shortly before race day based on trail conditions and weather.
Race formats
- Full Solstice: 8 hours and 58 minutes
- Full Solstice Relay: teams up to 5 runners
- Half Solstice: 4 hours and 29 minutes
- Quarter Solstice: 2 hours and 15 minutes
Relay rules state each runner must complete the full loop, exchanges occur in a designated relay area, and teams may not replace a member who leaves early. Each team member receives a shirt and a finishing medal. Only the top team in each category receives an award. Teams may set up tents when weather allows and there is indoor space for teams and volunteers.
There is one aid station visited every few kilometres offering water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, PB&J sandwiches, pickles, hot drinks and soup. The event is cup-less so runners should bring a collapsible cup or bottle. All participants receive a finisher's medal and a crewneck sweatshirt. THN Labs provides gels in race kits and at aid stations; the gels list maple syrup, tahini, sea salt and rowanberry extract as ingredients. The event benefits Hamilton Out Of The Cold.
Refund policy summary: a 100% race credit is issued for cancellations at least 30 days before the event; cancellations within 30 days are not accommodated. Bib transfers are allowed. There are no waitlists. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
