The Frostbite Solstice Trail Race 2026

The event takes place at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario on December 19, 2026. The course uses an approximately 3.7 km trail loop that mixes tree-covered singletrack and open field. The route includes a few short rolling hills and the location is typically windy. Organizers will select the best-conditioned trails before race day, so the exact course may vary depending on weather and trail conditions.

Available race options are based on fixed running durations:

  • Full Solstice: 8 hours 58 minutes
  • Half Solstice: 4 hours 29 minutes
  • Quarter Solstice: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Full Solstice Relay: teams up to 5 runners

Relay teams must have each member complete the full loop and perform exchanges in a designated transition area; a team may not replace a member who leaves early. Each team member receives a shirt and a finisher's medal; only top teams in each category receive awards. Teams may set up tents if weather permits, and an indoor space is available for teams and volunteers.

One aid station is on course and is passed every few kilometres, offering water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, PB&J sandwiches and pickles. The event is cupless; participants need a collapsible cup or bottle. Race kits include gels from THN Labs, whose ingredients are maple syrup, tahini, sea salt, and rowanberry extract. The event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario and benefits Hamilton Out Of The Cold. All participants receive a finisher's medal and a crewneck sweatshirt. The refund policy provides a 100% race credit up to 30 days before the event; bib transfers are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
