Wellington Swim-Run Challenge
The Wellington Swim-Run Challenge is part of the Mountain Swim Series and takes place at Wellington Reservoir in Bailey, Colorado on Sunday August 23, 2026. Registration is open and will close on August 19, 2026. The posted registration fee is $99.00 plus applicable online fees. Participants receive Mountain Swim Series beanies.
The event uses a lap format. Per lap details:
- Per lap: 0.3 M swim, 1.6 K run
- Total: 3 laps = 1 mile swim, 5K run
There will be a single large mass start with all swimmers leaving together. Timing will use bib numbers, stopwatches and a clock; there will not be electronic chip timing. Packet pickup occurs on the morning of the race.
Swimmers may use shoes, paddles, a wetsuit, pull buoy, floaties, rubber duckies, inflatable flamingoes or other nonmotorized swim aids.
Parking is in designated areas and participants must walk from parking to the start; the walk is approximately 2/3 mile and typically takes about 15 minutes. Cellular service at the lake is spotty. Camping in the Royal Elk Meadows area can be reserved during registration; campsites allow up to four people from the same group and have separate site fees. Tow-behind campers and RVs are not permitted. Access to the lake is via a dirt road with potholes and may be more difficult for some low-clearance vehicles.
