Distances and course
- 50 Miles
- 50K (31.1 Miles)
Both courses are 100% soft surface and are made up mainly of singletrack trails with some short sections of double track. The route passes through ponderosa pine forest and areas affected by the 1996 Buffalo Creek fire, and it includes views of granite rock formations. The 50 Mile course lists about 6,425 feet of total elevation gain and a maximum elevation of 8,535 feet. The 50K lists about 3,670 feet of total elevation gain and a maximum elevation of 8,150 feet.
Logistics and support
Both distances have multiple aid stations offering water, hydration and food at set mile points. Some aid stations allow crew access and drop bags, while others do not. Parking is adjacent to the start/finish with overflow at a nearby church; vehicles are restricted from leaving the start/finish area before a specified time. Pacers are not allowed, though family or friends may run in with a runner for the final mile. Course markings use orange and black polka-dot ribbons and orange pin flags; blue and white checkered ribbons indicate the wrong way.
Timing, awards and services
Time limits are listed by distance (50 Mile - 14 hours; 50K - 13 hours). All finishers receive a commemorative award. Special awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Post-race food and drink are provided at a finish line festival, and live race tracking is available.
