Event overview

Punk Panther Welcome Way is a trail race in Otley, West Yorkshire that follows much of the Welcome Way circular trail. The route passes moorland, rivers, canals, reservoirs, farmland and woodland. High points on the route include Otley Chevin and Burley and Baildon moors. The event is listed at The Bridge Church, Cattle Market Street, Otley, LS21 1RW, with the finish at Otley Cricket Club, Cross Green, Otley, LS21 1RB. The event is Race 3 of 10 in the series and allows a maximum of 200 entrants. Minimum age is 18.

Race details and support

Total climb for the distances is listed as 1360 ft, 2280 ft, 4240 ft and 6000 ft respectively. Checkpoints are positioned on the courses and will provide water, cola, energy bars and crisps. There are course cut-offs; arriving at a checkpoint after it has closed will result in retirement from the race. The 50 mile race allows one non-returnable drop bag to be transferred to a mid-race checkpoint.

ITRA and UTMB points are allocated for each distance. The 50 mile distance is part of the 50 mile series within the event.

Registration, trackers and kit

Registration takes place at Otley Cricket Club. Ultramarathon entrants receive a tracker; shorter-distance runners can hire a tracker for a fee. Competitors must carry a list of required kit including a suitable bag, waterproof jacket with taped seams, fluids, cup, nutrition, survival/bivvy bag, whistle, hat, gloves, personal first aid kit, a hard copy of the map/route and a mobile phone with organiser and medic numbers stored.
