Punk Panther Welcome Way
The Punk Panther Welcome Way is a trail running event held in Otley that follows the Welcome Way, a circular route through diverse landscapes. Participants navigate a course that includes moorland, riverbanks, canals, reservoirs, farmland, and woodland. Notable geographical points on the route include Otley Chevin and the Burley and Baildon moors.
The event offers four distinct distances to accommodate different preferences:
- 13 miles (Half Marathon) with 1,360 feet of elevation gain.
- 20 miles with 2,280 feet of elevation gain.
- 34 miles (Ultramarathon) with 4,240 feet of elevation gain.
- 50 miles (Ultramarathon) with 6,000 feet of elevation gain.
The event provides specific support for participants, including checkpoints stocked with water, refreshments, and snacks. Ultramarathon runners are provided with a GPS tracker for safety and live monitoring, while trail race participants have the option to hire one. A mandatory kit list is in place for all distances to ensure runner safety, including items such as waterproof jackets, survival bags, and mobile phones.
The event base is located at the Bridge Church in Otley, with registration taking place at Otley Common. Finishers receive a medal and an event t-shirt. Post-race catering is provided at the finish line, including options such as homemade pie, cheese toasties, and vegan-friendly chili. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter.
