Punk Panther Welcome Way
The Punk Panther Welcome Way is a trail race that follows the Welcome Way circular trail around Otley. The route passes moorland, rivers, canals and reservoirs, crosses farmland and goes through woodland. Notable high points along the course include Otley Chevin and Burley and Baildon moors.
The event offers multiple distance options with varying total ascent and includes checkpoints on the route. Some checkpoints are present on all courses and additional checkpoints serve the ultramarathon routes only. Ultrarunners are supplied with trackers and trail race entrants can hire a tracker for a fee; trackers include an emergency button and display runner positions on a live tracker screen. Provisional GPX files and a route description are provided in advance and final instructions are issued to competitors before the event.
A kit list applies to all distances and competitors must carry specified safety items. Drop bags are permitted for the 50 mile course and will be transferred to a later checkpoint. Support crews must avoid official checkpoints. Maximum entrants are limited and the minimum age is 18.
Finishers receive a medal and an event T-shirt unless they opt out. Food and drinks are available at the finish including homemade pie, cheese toasties and a vegan and gluten free 10 bean chilli. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
