Triathlon Event in Waupaca
The Waupaca Area Triathlon is held at South Park's Shadow Lake in downtown Waupaca. This multi-sport event is USAT sanctioned and offers various course formats, including traditional triathlons, a paddling course, and an aqua-bike option. All participants receive a t-shirt as part of their registration.
The event utilizes the natural landscape of the region. The swimming portion takes place in Shadow Lake as an out-and-back course. The cycling segment leads participants through the countryside southeast of the city, featuring views of local lakes and rolling hills. The final running leg is conducted on flat city streets within Waupaca.
Available Courses
The event features several distances and categories:
- Long Course: 0.5 mile swim, 20 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.
- Short Course: 0.25 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 2 mile run.
- Paddling Short Course: 1 mile paddle, 12 mile bike, and 2 mile run.
- Aqua-Bike Long Course: 0.5 mile swim and 20 mile bike.
- Youth Triathlon (Ages 11-17): 200 meter swim, 7 mile bike, and 1 mile run.
- The Veleker (1st Timers): 200 meter swim, 7 mile bike, and 1 mile run.
- Kids Triathlon: Various distances for ages 4-10, including swimming, biking, and running.
The paddling course requires life vests and allows the use of kayaks or paddle boards. Relay teams consisting of two or three members are permitted for the long and short courses. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
