Water Gap 50k and Half
The event offers two trail distances in Milford, PA, using the McDade Trail and a common start area at Smithfield Beach.
- 50K
- 25K
The course is an out and back along the McDade Trail, which runs through the Delaware Water Gap. Surface is mainly rail-trail cinder with some singletrack. The route is described as non-technical and rolling, with generally flat sections. The trail is marked with pink survey flags; markings are sparser on open trail and denser at turns. A full course briefing is provided on race morning.
There are three aid stations on course and limited on-site gel options, including some Huma gels. The event is cupless; runners are asked to bring a cup. The aid station locations for the 50K are Park HQ (miles 5.2 and 26.1), Bushkill Access with drop bag access (miles 8.5 and 22.9), and Eshback Access (miles 13 and 18). The 50K turnaround requires taking a poker chip to the finish. The 25K turnaround is at the second aid station and the 25K course is noted as slightly long.
Drop bags for 50K runners are collected at Smithfield Beach before the 50K start and placed at Bushkill Access. Post-race food includes tacos (chicken or tofu), potatoes, and black bean salad. Results are posted by Sunday night. Volunteer shifts earn race credit for future Happily Running events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
