Wapsi Wiggle - A 5K & Half Marathon
The Wapsi Wiggle is a running event held in Riceville, Iowa, featuring distances on a paved trail. The course transitions through various landscapes, including farmland, wooded areas, and restored prairie. All races start and finish at the WGWL Trailhead and Welcome Center located at 110 East Main Street.
Participants can choose from several event distances:
- 13 Miles (Training Half Marathon)
- 5K (Run/Walk)
- 1/2 Mile (Kids Fun Run)
The 13 Miles distance is a timed training half marathon organized as an out and back route. The 5k distance is a timed run or walk, also following an out and back format on the trail. For younger participants, there is a 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run available for children aged 10 years and younger.
Awards include medals for the first and second place overall male and female finishers in the half marathon. For the 5K, medals are provided to the first and second place male and female finishers across multiple age categories, ranging from under 18 to 65 and over.
Registered participants have access to a pancake and sausage meal located at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A portion of the proceeds from the event supports a local charity, the Little Cats Daycare. The races take place on the WGWL trail system.
