Wapsi Wiggle - A 5K & Half Marathon
The event in Riceville, Iowa features a timed training half marathon and a timed 5K run/walk. Both races use an out-and-back format from the WGWL Trailhead and Welcome Center at 110 East Main Street. Races take place on a paved trail that passes through farmland, woods and restored prairie.
Awards include medals for first and second place overall male and overall female finishers in the half marathon. The 5K awards first and second place male and female finishers within age categories: Under 18, 18-25, 26-35, 36-49, 50-64, and 65 plus. A portion of event proceeds supports a local charity, Little Cats Daycare.
There is a free half-mile kids Fun Run for children 10 years and younger; no registration fee is required. Pancake and sausage meals are provided in the lower level of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church one block southeast of the trailhead; meals are free for registered participants and available to non-registered attendees for a fee of seven dollars and three dollars for children four and under. Same-day registration is available with higher walk-up fees: fifty dollars for the training half marathon and thirty dollars for the 5K.
