IronHorse Races in Riceville, IA
The IronHorse event offers multiple distance races on the Wapsi-Great Western Line (WGWL) Trail, finishing at the WGWL Trailhead Welcome Center in Riceville, Iowa. Courses run on a railroad level grade and use paved and concrete surfaces; the Full Marathon includes a midrace section of crushed rock and crosses into Minnesota via the Shooting Star Trail.
Distances:
- 26.22 Miles Full Marathon point-to-point across Minnesota and Iowa
- 13.1094 Miles Half Marathon point-to-point in Iowa
- 6.2 Miles 10K out-and-back on the WGWL Trail
- 5K 5K out-and-back on the WGWL Trail
All races are USATF sanctioned; the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K are USATF certified. The Full Marathon is eligible as a Boston qualifier. Aid stations and portable toilets are placed along the courses. Awards are given to the first three finishers in each gender in every race; Full and Half Marathon finishers also receive a finishers award.
Logistics note: Full and Half Marathon starters may arrive by private vehicle or use provided shuttles; shuttle reservations and shirt purchases have cutoff dates. The event emphasizes safety on a largely dedicated recreational trail and requests that unwell participants stay home. Strollers and dogs are not allowed. Pacers must be registered participants.
