About the race
The Wangaratta Marathon is an annual running event held in Wangaratta, North East Victoria. The 16th edition takes place on Sunday March 14th 2027 and features a range of distances to suit different ages and abilities.
The event offers five distances:
- 42.2 km (marathon)
- 21.1 km (half marathon)
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 km Primary School Challenge
The 2 km Primary School Challenge is for children under 12. All finishers receive a medal and the top three in each age group (U8, U10, U12) are awarded a trophy. Parents or guardians may accompany children under 10 but must start at the back. The event is electronically timed.
The course is described as fast and flat, mostly on sealed pathway or gravel with minimal turns. The event takes place in mid March when mornings are typically cool and calm in North East Victoria. The surrounding area includes food, wine, mountains, rivers and lakes, and the nearby Murray to Mountains Rail Trail provides over 100 km of cycling and walking trail for visitors.
