Walter Raleigh Round Half and Third Marathon
The Walter Raleigh Round is a trail running event around the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh, starting and finishing in the coastal town of Budleigh Salterton. The routes use quiet back lanes, unsurfaced county roads, local footpaths, the Otter valley, High Peak, the Jurassic Coast and a dismantled railway.
Distances:
- 13.6 miles (half marathon)
- 8.5 miles (third marathon)
The third marathon follows the same route as the half marathon up to the River Otter but avoids the High Peak climb and the coastal section. It follows a riverbank path downstream to rejoin the half marathon route at the second river crossing.
The event features a fully marked course, marshalls at key locations, and first aid cover. Aid stations are provided along the routes with two on the half marathon and one on the third marathon. All finishers receive a Walter Raleigh Round solid oak coaster. The course includes muddy sections and multiple hills. The event is open to runners and walkers, and 16th century fancy dress is optional. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
