About the race
The Walter Raleigh Round offers two trail distances around the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh, set in the Otter valley and along the Jurassic Coast. The course starts and finishes in the coastal town of Budleigh Salterton and uses quiet back lanes, unsurfaced county roads, little known footpaths and a dismantled railway.

- Half marathon - 13.6 miles
- Third marathon - 8.5 miles
The half marathon route climbs High Peak and includes a coastal section. The third marathon follows the same route as far as the river Otter but avoids the biggest hill and the coastal section, instead following the riverbank downstream to rejoin the half marathon route at the second river crossing.
The event provides a fully marked course with marshalls in key locations, first aid cover and well stocked aid stations (one on the third marathon, two on the half marathon). Finishers receive a solid oak Walter Raleigh Round coaster. The organisers note muddy conditions and many hills, and the event is open to runners and walkers.
