Event overview
The Walter Raleigh Round Half and Third Marathon is an off-road running event based in Budleigh Salterton. The route visits the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh and nearby countryside. It passes quiet back lanes, unsurfaced county roads, little known footpaths, the Otter valley, High Peak, the Jurassic Coast and a dismantled railway. The half marathon starts and finishes in Budleigh Salterton and covers 13.6 miles. The third marathon follows the same course to the River Otter, then avoids the main hill and the coastal section by using a riverbank path downstream to rejoin at the second river crossing, covering 8.5 miles.
Race details
The event features a fully marked course, marshalls in key locations, first aid cover and well stocked aid stations (two on the half marathon, one on the third marathon). A solid oak coaster is provided to all finishers. The course is described as muddy and hilly. The event is open to runners and walkers and has a 5 hour maximum time. 16th century fancy dress is optional.
