About the Event

The Wallowa Skyrace is a 3rd edition event organized by The Mountain Runners. It requires a special use permit from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

Course Details

The race starts at the Wallowa Lake Tramway in Joseph, Oregon. The course covers 4.2 miles and gains 3,700 feet of elevation to the summit of Mt. Howard. After reaching the top, runners can descend via the tram. The course offers views of the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

Registration

Registration is open online until Thursday, June 18, 2026. The price increases over time:

  • $90 early bird until December 31, 2025.
  • $100 normal price until April 30, 2026.
  • $110 from May 1 until registration closes on June 18, 2026. The registration fee includes the tram ride down, a finisher medal, and post-race refreshments. Race shirts are available for an additional $30 purchase.

Awards

All participants receive a finisher medal. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers. A $200 cash prize is offered to any male or female participant who breaks the current course record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
