Wallis Sands Triathlon

The Wallis Sands Triathlon takes place on September 20, 2026 at Wallis Sands State Park in Rye, New Hampshire. The event program includes Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Relay, Sprint Aquabike, Duathlon, Duathlon Relay, Virtual Triathlon, and Virtual Duathlon. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; nonmembers must purchase a one-day USAT membership when registering.

The swim is held in the Atlantic Ocean from the beach in front of the state beach concession stand and follows a triangle route. Wetsuits are highly recommended and sleeveless wetsuits are permitted. The primary transition area is located in the state beach parking lot. The finish is on the grass above the beach with a tent for post-race activities regardless of weather.

Course distances include:

  • Sprint Triathlon: 1/3 mile swim, 14.5 mile bike, 3.2 mile run
  • Duathlon: 1.1 mile run out and back, 14.5 mile bike, 3.2 mile run

The bike course is a 14.5 mile loop that travels along the seacoast and through parts of the town of Rye, returning on Route 1A. The sprint run is a 3.2 mile out and back with the turnaround at Odiorne Point State Park. Relay teams must hand off the timing chip at their designated bike rack spot.

Professional chip timing is provided and ankle timing chips record split times for swim, bike, run, T1, T2, and finish. The post-race program includes an awards ceremony, food and refreshments. Race entry includes a technical t-shirt, chip timing, course support, post-race refreshments, sponsor items, and a finisher award.
