Wallis Sands Triathlon - Wallis Sands State Park, Rye NH
The Wallis Sands Triathlon takes place at Wallis Sands State Park in Rye, New Hampshire. The event includes several race formats on the same day: Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Relay, Sprint Aquabike, Duathlon, Duathlon Relay, and virtual Triathlon and Duathlon options.
Course details include:
- Swim: 1/3 mile ocean triangle course from Wallis Sands beach
- Bike: 14.5 mile flat loop through Rye, returning on Route 1A
- Run: 3.2 mile out-and-back 5K with turnaround at Odiorne Point
- Duathlon Run 1: about 1 mile out-and-back along the coast
The ocean swim starts and finishes on the beach in front of the concession stand. Wetsuits are highly recommended and sleeveless wetsuits are permitted. The single transition area is located in the Wallis Sands State Park parking lot. Only volunteers, staff, and registered athletes may enter the transition area; athletes must be bodymarked, wear an approved helmet, and have bikes inspected for USA Triathlon compliance.
Professional chip timing is provided and results include swim, bike, run, T1, T2, and finish splits. Post-race activities include an awards ceremony, food and refreshments, and a tent for post-race gatherings. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; nonmembers must purchase a one-day membership for $15. A technical shirt, chip timing, course support, and a finisher award are included with entry. Note the t-shirt policy: athletes who register within three weeks of the race may not be guaranteed their preferred size and those who register in the week of the race may not be guaranteed a shirt.
