Walk Where America Was Born
Walk Where America Was Born is an AVA sanctioned multi-day walking event in Philadelphia as part of America’s 250th Anniversary. It takes place October 8 to 11, 2026 and includes both group and self-guided walks that pass many historic sites associated with the nation’s founding.
The event follows the non-competitive volkssport tradition. Walkers proceed at their own pace and may stop to view scenery, take photographs, visit museums or shops, have a picnic, or rest as needed. Group walks may be guided while self-guided options are available for independent walking over multiple days.
Typical volkssport distance arrangements apply:
- 10 km as a common minimum distance
- 5 km shorter option offered for many walks
The event is AVA sanctioned and organized by the Liberty Bell Wanderers, a local walking club that sponsors traditional and year-round events. Routes are intended to provide a variety of walking experiences in urban and park settings and to connect walkers with historical points of interest in Philadelphia.
