Walk a Mile in Their Shoes
Walk a Mile in Their Shoes is part of the Paint Atlanta Purple initiative, held each October in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Advocates, survivors, corporate teams, families, and supporters from across the country gather to raise awareness, honor survivors, remember those who have died, and stand united in the movement to end domestic violence.
The event offers both in-person and virtual participation. The in-person activities take place in Atlanta at Park Tavern, adjacent to Piedmont Park, with a scenic course along the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail. The in-person program includes a 5K run and a 1 Mile walk. The in-person 5K is an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race qualifying event and the course is USATF certified (GA22048WC). Check-in and on-site registration occur at Park Tavern.
Virtual participation runs October 1 through October 7. Participants can complete an activity of their choice at their own pace, including walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming, or dancing. After completing an activity, participants are encouraged to share photos and accomplishments on social media using the event hashtags.
