Wahkiakum 4-H Great White Tail Run
The Wahkiakum 4-H Great White Tail Run is an annual in-person and virtual event held in Skamokawa, Washington. Participation is open to both runners and walkers, and the event specifically encourages canine participants to join their owners. The race serves as a fundraiser for the Wahkiakum County 4-H Youth Development Program, with proceeds supporting educational initiatives for youth between kindergarten and 19 years of age.
The event features several distance options for participants:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 miles
Participants may choose to register for versions of the race that include an event shirt or opt for a registration without a shirt. The physical race takes place in the vicinity of the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge. This area is known as the habitat for the Columbia Whitetail Deer and serves as a wintering location for waterfowl along the Pacific flyway.
Organized by the Wahkiakum 4-H Leaders Council, the event aims to support local programs that teach life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, and decision-making. In addition to the physical races in Skamokawa, a virtual option is available for those who wish to complete their chosen distance remotely.
