26th Annual Run for the Health of It
The VNSHS Run for the Health of It is a community sports event held in Northport, New York. The event supports the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk, a not-for-profit health care agency providing hospice, home care, and rehabilitative services. The race is a featured part of the USATF-Long Island Grand Prix.
The event features several participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Kids Fun Run
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
- Virtual 5K Bike
The in-person 5K takes place on a USATF certified course through residential roads. The route includes rolling hills and covers 1.6K of the historic Cow Harbor course. Participants can find a water station located near the east end of Oak Street. The Kids Fun Run is an untimed event where participants receive a medal and a plant. A wheelchair division is also available for those competing in the 5K.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top masters (40+) male and female, and the top male and female nurse. There is also a cash prize for the largest team. Age group awards are provided in five-year increments ranging from 14 and under to 80 and over. The first 500 participants are eligible to receive a race tee shirt.
The virtual options coincide with National Nurses Week, allowing participants to track their own distance via treadmill, track, or GPS apps. Virtual participants have their bibs shipped to them. For in-person attendees, parking is available at the William J. Brosnan Building. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
