VNSHS Run for the Health of It 5K Run/Walk
The event is a 5K run/walk held on USATF certified roads through residential areas of Northport. The course features rolling hills and incorporates 1.6K of the historic Cow Harbor course. Police traffic control and event volunteers support the route, and a water station is available approximately mid-way near the east end of Oak Street.
Amenities include live online, text, and email results, free finish line photos and same-day video, and a post-race barbecue sponsored by The Great Cow Harbor for participants who remain after the event. Participants who register at least three weeks in advance are eligible for a personalized bib number.
Awards are offered by sex and age group. Cash prizes are listed for the top three overall finishers for men and women and for the top masters finishers age 40 and over. A cash prize is also designated for the largest team. Age group awards are provided for a wide range of divisions from 14 and under through 80 and over, and some age group awards are issued as Amazon gift cards. A nurse category also receives a cash prize.
On-site bib pickup is available before the event, with a self-lookup area for those who do not know their bib number. Virtual entries receive shipped bibs within a window that spans roughly the week before to the week after the event. Parking is available at the William J. Brosnan Building at 158 Laurel Avenue in Northport. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
