Veteran's Day 5K in Danville
The 10th annual Veteran's Day 5K is a fundraising race organized by American Legion Post 210 at 201 Prospect Place, Danville, Illinois. The event features a 5K (3.1 miles) course that starts at the legion, heads north in a loop through a residential neighborhood, and returns to the legion. The course is mostly flat with a few short hills. Participants may run, walk, jog, or use a stroller. Pets are not allowed for liability reasons.
Regular registration carries a stated fee of $20 and a higher race day fee is noted at $30. Packet pickup is available on race day at the legion and includes the race bib and a shirt if one was ordered. Shirts will also be available for sale and order on race day, and there are no holds on shirts if not picked up before the race start. No refunds or transfers are permitted for this fundraising event.
Pre-race activities include the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem followed by a send off presented by the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard. Finisher awards are to be determined. Funds raised support American Legion programs such as assistance with clothing, food, and blessing bags for local veterans, and building improvements including updates to handicapped restrooms. After the race the legion will offer refreshments, free chili and desserts, plus a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. A guest speaker is scheduled following the event.
