Event Overview
The Chesterfield's Heroic Walk, Run & Roll, also known as the Veterans Day 5, is an annual athletic event held in Grand Rapids. The courses begin and end at the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids, with the start line situated behind the facility near the cemetery arches. The event serves to commemorate Veterans Day and supports the local veteran community.
Courses and Distances
Participants can choose from several on-site and virtual options:
- 5 Mile Run: The route passes through Riverside Park and the Veterans cemetery before returning to the Home.
- 5K Run: This course takes participants through Riverside Park.
- .5 Mile Remembrance Walk: An untimed walk starting at the cemetery arches.
- Virtual 5 Mile: A remote option to be completed between early October and early November.
- Virtual 5K: A remote option to be completed between early October and early November.
Recognition and Amenities
All participants in the 5 Mile and 5K events receive finisher medals. Competitive awards are presented to the top five boys and girls aged 12 and under, the top five overall men and women, and the top five men and women in the masters category. These awards are distributed during the community pancake breakfast.
The event includes a SpartanNash Community Pancake Breakfast, where tickets can be purchased to benefit the Michigan Veteran Homes. Long-sleeve shirts are provided to participants registered by the late October deadline, while walkers have the option to purchase shirts during the check-in period.
