Vest Up for the Fallen
Vest Up for the Fallen is a two-day, 65-mile tribute walk from Boston to Bourne on Memorial Day weekend. The journey begins at the Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial on Boston Common and ends at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Buzzards Bay. It is described as a walk, not a run, and participants typically wear a weighted vest or ruck as a symbolic gesture.
The event includes two main formats:
- A continuous individual walk covering the full 65 miles.
- A team relay, where groups of 4-12 people split the distance.
A standard registration fee applies, but participants can opt to fundraise for a fee waiver. Registered participants receive an event T-shirt, snacks, water, a pizza stop, and a completion patch. Support vehicles and designated check-in points are stationed along the route, which passes through several Massachusetts towns.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the start and from the finish. The event raises funds for Give2Those.org, a nonprofit supporting veterans, active-duty personnel, and first responders. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
