Vest Up 4 the Fallen
Vest Up 4 the Fallen is a continuous walking event covering 65 miles from the Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial at Boston Common to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Buzzards Bay, Bourne. The route passes through Boston, Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Norwell, Hanover, Pembroke, Duxbury, Kingston, Plymouth, Bourne, and Buzzards Bay. The event offers both an individual 65-mile walk and a team relay option.
The team relay format typically uses teams of about four to twelve people. Teams must provide their own support vehicle, check in with the coordinator at designated checkpoints, and attend the final ceremony in Bourne regardless of finish time. Check-in points require an ID number and provide a place to retrieve gear, change socks, and address basic needs. A main check-in vehicle accompanies the route.
Registration includes a standard fee of $65.00. A fundraising option can waive the registration fee if a specified fundraising target is met. Registered participants receive an official event T-shirt, fueling snacks and water, pizza at approximately 25.2 miles, shaved ice along the route, and a completion patch for those who finish the full walk or participate in the relay.
Safety measures include mandatory ID, reflective gear and lighting, headlamps for low-light sections, hydration stations along the route, and volunteer support. The event encourages manageable vest weight for those wearing a vest but permits rucksacks as an alternative. Rules require participants to notify staff if withdrawing and to arrange their own transportation from a drop-out location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
