Race Format
VentureQuest is a sprint adventure race where competitors travel on foot, by bike, and by boat. Teams of up to four people, or solo participants, must navigate to find checkpoints in and around Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland. All team members must travel together for the entire event. The exact course, including the order of disciplines and specific routes, is not revealed until the day of the race.
Distances
Two race lengths are offered: an 8-hour event and a 24-hour event. Distances vary based on route choices and the number of checkpoints teams attempt to find.
- 8-hour course: The total distance can be up to approximately 32 miles. This is estimated to include up to 4 miles of paddling, up to 8 miles of biking, and up to 10 miles of trekking.
- 24-hour course: The total distance can be up to approximately 100 miles. A more detailed course overview is provided several weeks before the race.
