VentureQuest Adventure Race
VentureQuest is an adventure race held on Saturday September 12, 2026 at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland. EX2 Adventures is producing the 21st edition. The event uses park trails, roads, and waterways and includes navigation as part of competition.
Solo competitors and teams of up to four (male, female, or mixed) compete together and must stay close to one another throughout the race. Checkpoints are dispersed inside and outside the park and must be reached by trekking, mountain biking, or paddling. Boats are kayaks for soloists and canoes for teams.
Distances depend on route choices and acquired checkpoints. Course order and segment distances are revealed on race day but the typical emphasis is biking first, then trekking, then paddling.
- 8 hour: up to ~32 miles; ~4 mi paddling, 18 mi biking, 10 mi trekking
- 24 hour: up to ~100 miles; distances vary by route choice
Mandatory single-racer gear includes a bike, helmet, and means to carry food and water. Team mandatory items include a provided race map, passport, bike repair kit, non distance-reading watch (Garmin AR mode allowed), charged cell phone for emergencies, pen, and a small dry bag. Paddling gear such as boats, PFDs, and paddles will be provided for in-person racers. Parking and race staging are at the Mountain View Pavilion near the lake.
