Vancouver Triathlon at Stanley Park
The Vancouver Triathlon takes place around Second Beach and Stanley Park and offers individual and relay options. Distances include the following.
- Standard - 1500m swim, 38km bike, 10km run
- Sprint - 750m swim, 19km bike, 5km run
- Tri it - 300m swim, 9km bike, 2.5km run
The swim is held in English Bay from the shore of Second Beach. The announced water temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius and a current reading is 19 degrees; wetsuit use is suggested and specific wetsuit rulings apply depending on temperature. Lifeguards and watercraft patrol the swim course.
The bike course follows Park Drive within Stanley Park with multiple laps for sprint and standard distances. The course is closed to traffic during racing and reopens in the late morning. The run follows the Seawall along English Bay to a turnaround under the Burrard Bridge; a water station is located at that turnaround.
Transition is on Ceperley Field east of Second Beach. Relay exchanges occur at the assigned bike spot in transition. Provincial triathlon membership or a one day race insurance purchase is required to participate. Time cutoffs apply to swim, bike and run segments according to distance.
