Event overview
The Valkyrie Multisport Relay in Durango, Colorado is a multisport relay that combines seven disciplines into a single course. Teams may include up to nine members; Duos, Trios, and solo entrants called Ultra Heptathletes are also allowed. The event is offered in two formats: a full-course relay and a shorter Sprint relay.
The seven disciplines are trail running, mountain biking, road cycling, stand-up paddleboarding, open-water swimming, canoe/kayak paddling, and a final road run. The full course covers nearly 80 miles across urban and natural areas around Durango. The Sprint format covers 53 miles and follows a similar sequence of stages on shorter legs.

Course routing uses Santa Rita Whitewater Park, Horse Gulch, Lake Nighthorse, the Animas River, Oxbow Park, and nearby roads and trails around Durango. The relay stages proceed in a set order from trail run through mountain bike and road cycle, then SUP, swim, river paddle, and finishing road run.
