The 2026 Valentine Greenway Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Presented by Black Mountain Recreation & Parks in partnership with the Black Mountain Greenways & Trails Committee, this is the 4th annual running of the event. The race features a newly designed 5K course that begins near the picnic pavilion at Lake Tomahawk. The event combines elements of a Valentine 5K with the Greenway Challenge format.
Details
All sponsorships, donations, and 50% of registration fees will be donated to the Black Mountain Greenways & Trails Committee. Funds are intended to support replacement of the greenway bridge along the Oaks Trail at Veterans Park. Runners receive a goodie bag that includes a Greenway Challenge bandana, chapstick, and sponsor giveaways. Packet pickup is offered before the race at the Lakeview Senior Center and on race day at the same location. An awards ceremony is scheduled for the day of the event.
Registration pricing is tiered by date: Early Registration (Dec 5 – Jan 7) is listed at $34.25, and Registration (Jan 8 – Feb 6) is listed at $39.63.
