Uwharrie 12 Hour Adventure Race 2026
The Uwharrie 12 Hour Adventure Race takes place at Morrow Mountain State Park in Albemarle, NC on May 30, 2026. Event entries include Solo and team options for 2, 3, or 4 persons; the listed price per racer is $150. The race combines hiking, mountain biking, and paddling. Night racing includes about three hours of darkness near the summer solstice, so participants are asked to carry lights. Boats must be provided by teams or rented through NCARS; rental supply is limited. Required individual gear includes a functional mountain bike (no road or cyclocross bikes), a CPSC-marked helmet for bike sections, a Type I/II/III PFD for paddling, individual headlight with spare batteries, bike lights with spare batteries, food and fluids, pen, knife, and whistle. Required team gear includes a canoe or kayak, compass, watch, waterproof phone case, and a basic first aid kit.
Uwharrie 5 Hour Adventure Race (Boat & Hike)
This event is at Morrow Mountain State Park and starts and finishes at the picnic shelter. Disciplines and approximate distances:
- Hiking 5-7 miles
- Paddle 3-6 miles Racers use pre-plotted CalTopo maps to navigate to checkpoints placed on natural features. Teams of 2–4 must remain together, no more than 100 feet apart unless directed otherwise. Required individual gear includes food and fluids, a pen, knife, whistle, and an individual headlight. Each team must provide a canoe or kayak or arrange a limited rental through NCARS. Minors must race with an adult. A release and waiver must be signed. Food and drinks are provided after the race and awards are announced.
Uwharrie 5 Hour Adventure Race (Bike & Hike)

- Hiking 5-7 miles
- Biking 3-6 miles Racers navigate to checkpoints using pre-plotted maps. Teams must stay together, generally within 100 yards. Required individual gear includes a functional mountain bike (no road or cyclocross), a CPSC helmet, a rear bike light with spare batteries, individual headlight, food and fluids, pen, knife, and whistle. Teams must carry a waterproof phone case and a basic first aid kit. The race is held rain or shine; minors must race with an adult.
