Event details
The event takes place at Morrow Mountain State Park in Albemarle, North Carolina. The Uwharrie Mountains, now located 150 miles inland, are part of a U.S. National Forest designated in 1961.
Disciplines and format
The 12-hour adventure race involves hiking, mountain biking, and paddling. Participants compete in one of four formats:
- Solo
- 2 Person Team
- 3 Person Team
- 4 Person Team
The course is designed to take place near the summer solstice, resulting in approximately 9 hours of daylight and 3 hours of darkness.
Required and recommended gear
Participants must bring their own gear. Each solo racer or team must provide their own canoe or kayak, or rent one through the organizer (limited availability). A detailed list of mandatory gear is provided. Required individual gear includes a functional mountain bike, a CPSC-marked bicycle helmet, a Type I, II, or III personal flotation device (PFD) for paddling, a headlight with extra batteries, and bike lights. Required team gear includes a compass, a watch, a cell phone in a waterproof case, a basic first aid kit, and a blinking light for the boat.
Recommended gear includes appropriate clothing for all weather, a waterproof map case, a water purification method, and bike repair supplies.
Registration and other information
The registration fee is $175 per racer. Registration closes on May 22, 2026. The park gates open at 6:30 AM, with race check-in from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at a picnic shelter. A pre-race meeting is held at 9:30 AM. Camping is available at the state park with tent, cabin, and RV sites (availability is limited).
