Event Overview
The Utah Valley Marathon is an annual running event held in Provo, Utah. Taking place on the first Saturday of June, the event features a variety of distances held over two days. The marathon course is a USATF certified route and serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The races are known for their significant net elevation drop of over 1,400 feet, following a path through Provo Canyon.
Race Distances
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- Marathon: A 26.2 mile course through Provo Canyon.
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile course covering the second half of the marathon route.
- 10K: A 6.2 mile race with a gentle downhill course that follows the final miles of the marathon.
- Friday 5K: A 3.1 mile race held on Friday evening before the main events.
- Kids 1K Fun Run: A 0.6 mile race for children.
Course and Atmosphere
The routes transition from natural canyon scenery into the heart of downtown Provo. The course passes local landmarks including forests, lakes, and waterfalls. The marathon and half marathon are noted for being fast canyon races due to the downhill elevation profile.
Event Weekend Activities
The weekend includes the Utah Valley Fitness Expo, held at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo on the Friday before the Saturday races. All race distances include on-course support, finish-line festivities, and premium swag for participants. The event also facilitates a charitable program where participants can support local charities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
