USPC Draft Legal Triathlon Festival : Troutman, NC
The USPC Draft Legal Triathlon Festival takes place on October 25, 2025 at Lake Norman State Park in Troutman, NC. The one-day event, presented by the US Performance Center, includes the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon East National Qualifier (invitation only) and Open Draft Legal Super Sprint races for men and women. Entry for listed events is shown as $165, including a $15 fee. The collegiate qualifier is open to ages 16-30; the Open Draft Legal Super Sprint (men) is open to ages 14-30. The DI, DII and DIII draft legal races are for collegiate athletes only; the Open Super Sprint is open to noncollegiate athletes.
Courses, equipment and rules
- 500 m swim - Open Draft Legal Super Sprint.
- 750 m swim - East Regional National Qualifier.
The swim uses a sandy beach start and finish, followed by a 150 m run to transition. Bike courses are contained entirely inside Lake Norman State Park on a well-paved 5 km loop: the Open Super Sprint uses a 2-loop bike with about 415 ft total climbing, the collegiate qualifier uses a 4-loop bike with about 830 ft total climbing. Run courses are rolling, multi-loop out-and-back courses contained within the park; the collegiate run is a 3-loop course totaling 5 km. Races follow World Triathlon competition rules with USA Triathlon sanctioning and enforcement of the Lap Out Rule. Draft-legal equipment requirements include standard drop handlebars, no stubby or time trial bars, wheels with 12 or more spokes (no disc wheels), and helmets with the original CPSC sticker. Wetsuits are allowed if water temperature is below 68°F; officials will take a final water temperature reading one hour before the swim start.
