Event Overview
The "Using Our Voices" Mental Health Run in New Hyde Park is the third installment of a four-part student-led race series on Long Island. This annual event is designed and executed entirely by students from four participating districts: Patchogue-Medford, North Babylon, Connetquot, and New Hyde Park. The initiative focuses on promoting mental health and wellness through physical activity, while providing students with opportunities for leadership and civic engagement.
The race series aims to share messages regarding stress reduction, anxiety management, and building community relationships. Proceeds from the event support student counseling opportunities and benefit organizations that work directly with local youth.
Race Categories
The event features several participation options focused on inclusivity and varying levels of activity:
- 5k Competitive Run: A timed race open to participants looking for a competitive environment.
- 1 Mile Run/Walk: A non-competitive untimed option for participants who prefer to move at their own pace.
- Unified Fun Run: An untimed 1-mile run designed for individuals with and without disabilities to participate together, promoting social inclusion through sports.
- Kids Run: A dedicated race for children up to 10 years of age.
