Urban Wilderness 50k

The Urban Wilderness 50k is a trail event in Knoxville, Tennessee, based at the Urban Wilderness Gateway Park and using the city trail system. The routes pass through four city parks, one wildlife management area, and sections of privately owned land including Ijams, the Drop Inn, and the Helix trails. Aid stations are placed along the course and trails are described as maintained and runnable.

The event offers two distances:

  • 50K (31 miles) with about 3,400 ft of elevation gain.
  • 10K (6.3 miles) with about 640 ft of elevation gain.

The 50K route follows a long loop that includes greenway sections, multiple climbs and descents on named trails such as Red Bud, Burnett Ridge, Ross Marble, Whaley, Transfarm, Helix, Lost Chromosome, Hastie (a 5.25 mile section with nearly 700 ft of gain), Victor Ashe, and several gravel and greenway finishes. The 10K shares the early portion of the course and includes Red Bud, View Park, Victor Ashe, the Drop Inn area, Rendezvous, Floyd Fox, and Sycamore before returning to the greenway.

Packet pickup is offered the day before at Southside Garage (1014 Sevier Avenue) with limited bib pickup on race morning. Registration closes October 7, 2026; registering by September 18, 2026 guarantees a race shirt. Refunds are available on a sliding scale through September 18.
