Event Overview
The Up & Over Trail Run Weekend is a two-day trail running event held at Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico. It takes place on the first weekend of August. The event features several race distances spread across Saturday and Sunday.
Race Distances
The weekend includes the following individual events:
- Up & Over 10k - A 10K trail run on Saturday. The course climbs 2,612 feet, starting at 9,321 feet and topping out at 11,819 feet. The route offers views of Kachina and Wheeler Peaks and includes a technical descent through high alpine terrain.
- 20th Anniversary 20k - A new 20K trail run on Saturday for the event's 20th anniversary. The double-loop course involves approximately 4,700 feet of vertical gain on rugged alpine trails and technical descents.
- Vertic-AL's Vert-K - A 1K vertical race on Sunday, climbing 1,497 feet up the ski area's Al's Run.
- Up & Dn - A 1K out-and-back fun run for children aged 10 and under, held on Sunday.
Combination Events
Two multi-day combination events are also offered:
- Double Trouble - Participants run the Up & Over 10k on Saturday and the Vertic-AL's Vert-K on Sunday.
- 20k Double Trouble - Participants run the new 20k on Saturday and the Vertic-AL's Vert-K on Sunday.
Participant Information
Age restrictions apply to some events. The Vertic-AL's Vert-K, Double Trouble, and 20k Double Trouble are open to participants aged 16 and over. The Up & Dn kids' run is for children aged 10 and under. All races are professionally timed.
Registered participants receive a custom t-shirt, a lightweight backpack, a finisher's premium, and a beer ticket (for those 21+). On-course hydration and post-race recovery are provided. Prizes are awarded for the top three finishers in each age category for the 10k, as well as for the best combined times in the Double Trouble events.
