Enchanted Forest Trail Races
The Enchanted Forest Trail Races take place in Red River, New Mexico on July 25, 2026. The event uses trails in Carson National Forest and the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area. Start and finish areas are at Brandenburg Park in downtown Red River.
Distances offered include:
- Trail Marathon - just over 26 miles with almost 5000' of climbing
- Heavy Half Marathon - 14.7 miles with more than 2,400' of climbing
- The Face Challenge - approximately 7 miles with about 2400' elevation gain
The marathon route runs from town up Old Pass Road, through dense forest, and includes a 5.5 mile loop across the ski area that is often off trail with tree markings. Marathoners then return to town before a steep ascent up The Face, a slope with no defined trail that rises to the top of the Platinum lift and then descends back to the finish. An alternate marathon course may be used if windstorm damage and cleanup require it.
Aid stations will be stocked with ice water, sports gels, potato chips, Skittles, and a Precision electrolyte drink. Cups are not provided. Radio contact and basic medical supplies will be available at aid stations; NSAIDs are not supplied.
Awards include customized finisher mementos at the finish and top three male and female placers in age groups. Place awards are presented at ceremonies and will not be mailed. Entry fees cover awards, apparel, aid station items, and post-race refreshments and are non-refundable and nontransferable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
