University of Okoboji Homecoming Races
The University of Okoboji Homecoming Races is a multi-event running and multisport weekend held around West Lake Okoboji and Arnolds Park. The event dates to 1978 and is held on the third Saturday in July. In 2024 the races drew over 1,200 athletes from 27 U.S. states and three countries.
Events include a triathlon that uses the waters of West Lake Okoboji and a transition area at the top of Preservation Plaza in Arnolds Park, plus road and trail races around the lake. Competitors may enter the triathlon individually or compete on teams of two to three people. Shuttle buses run from Arnolds Park Amusement Park to race start locations.
Distances and race types:
- Triathlon: Swim 0.6 miles, Bike 18 miles, Run 3.8 miles
- Team Triathlon: teams of 2 to 3 people
- Half-Marathon: road and trail course around West Lake Okoboji
- 10K: road and trail course around West Lake Okoboji
- 5K: road and trail course around West Lake Okoboji
Prizes are offered for overall top finishers in several events and custom medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each age category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
